Never Repeating
Never Repeating (2024) is a generative aleatoric composition by Danish musician and sound artist Second Sun. It is realised in the form of a modular sound sculpture, which, standing upright in the room, presents a mysterious look with its many knobs, exposed wires, and blinking lights. Quietly singing away, it presents an impression of a conscious being that seems to embrace both introvertness and expressiveness.
The composition is made from a number of controlled randomised musical parameters, electronic sources of uncertainty, and complex modulation. This means that what you hear at any exact moment is unique and will never be repeated. The work thus encompasses a sense of ambivalence, since it does not stray from its recognisable and coherent sound, yet it never repeats itself.
50 unique cassettes were made, recorded directly from the sound sculpture to tape. Since the piece never repeats itself, each particular tape is thus the only one of its kind in the world. This is further mirrored by the cassette artwork, featuring 50 unique hand painted minimalist cover works.
The Harbour
The Harbour (2023) is an ambient sound installation, made exclusively for the Culture Tower on Knippels Bridge in Copenhagen, Denmark. The Harbour is about slowing down and opening one's senses, to be consciously present, and to find the pleasure in the little details that hide in plain sight in the midst of our busy daily lives.
